“A Home Away from Home”

After more than 55 years on the campus of Louisville Seminary,
we have found a temporary new location to call “Home.”
Thank you for your continued support!

MISSION

Our mission has expanded, but we still prioritize providing a comfortable temporary home for mission co-workers on furlough, as well as for global partners and PCUSA staff on temporary assignment.

While our new building is being planned and constructed, we have arranged through Highland Presbyterian Church to rent an apartment above their offices at 1009 Cherokee Road in Old Louisville (3 bedrooms and 2 baths). Note: The apartment is only accessible by stairs. The unit has been recently painted, floors refinished, and cleaned. See images below.

Reservations are first-come, first-served, with priority to mission co-workers. While we can accommodate a minimum rental of one week, we prefer to book in terms of months. To reserve this apartment, please view the calendar & contact us below.

HISTORY

The Furlough Home was built with support from various women’s groups in the Presbyterian Church. The home at Louisville Seminary was opened in October 1964 and was owned and operated by the Louisville Presbyterian Furlough Home, Inc. for more than 55 years.

SCHOLARSHIPS

In addition to providing a home away from home, the Board of The Sanctuary established the following three funds to provide extended assistance in the form of grants to residents of the Home and their families, seminary students, and international visitors. These Scholarships have currently been suspended until further notice.

  1. The Muril Brooks Scholarship Fund is used to assist Seminary students to attend the Overseas Ministries Study Center in New Haven, CT or other approved educational events dealing with missiology.
  2. The Fund for Continuing Education for Missionary Families was established to assist families residing in the Home with their educational costs.
  3. The Fund to Aid International Students and Visitors residing in the home has been created from memorial gifts.
